Move-in Day for new students began at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, with the first wave of students arriving before noon, and the second group arriving after noon.

According to Jennifer Graham, Director of Residence Life at Clarion University, the day went very smoothly.

“The morning started with rain, but the clouds kept the temperatures cool,” Graham noted.

Graham also noted that there were several people involved in the efforts to help the new students get settled in.

“We had many volunteers, police, student groups, staff, coaches, faculty, and athletes that helped make the day a success,” Graham said.

“We received many compliments regarding our efforts and the new students and families were very appreciative of everyone’s help.”

The first official day of “Welcome Week” kicked off Thursday morning with a welcome from University President Dr. Dale-Elizabeth Pehrsson and Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Susanne K. Fenske. Students will then rotate through sessions on having a successful life at Clarion University, touching on everything from diversity, civility, and sensitivity to the campus code and values and personal safety and violence prevention.

On Thursday evening, students can choose from a number of activities, including dodgeball, a movie showing at the university theater, Fortnite, and an Open Mic event.

Friday is Academic Day. Students will join the dean of their college and the department chair and faculty in their major to learn more about their field of study, discuss core classes, meet peers, and discover opportunities for success. The University Convocation, which is considered the formal start for students at the university, will also be held on Friday.

Saturday continues with additional programs to help students through their academic journey at Clarion University, then the day will wind down with more social activities through the evening.

Sunday’s activities are also more socially geared, allowing new students to relax and prepare for their first day of classes on Monday, August 26.

Upperclassmen will be moving into their residences over the weekend.
