NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. (EYT) — A New Bethlehem man who allegedly told a state parole agent that he could kill her with a golf club was held for court on Tuesday.

Court documents indicate one first-degree misdemeanor count of terroristic threats filed against 36-year-old Shane Robert Varner, of New Bethlehem, was held for court on Tuesday, September 17.

The charge has been transferred to the Clarion County Court of Common Pleas.

Varner remains lodged in the Clarion County Jail on $50,000.00 monetary bail.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 2:00 p.m. on September 9, Trooper Reilly, of the Clarion-based State Police met with a know state parole agent who reported that Shane Robert Varner had threatened her.

The complaint states that after receiving documentation from another agent regarding Varner moving, she arrived at a location on Falls Road in Porter Township, Clarion County, to meet with Varner regarding a pre-transfer investigation, as Varner is on state parole and must get approval to move.

According to the complaint, the agent reported that while meeting with Varner, she explained he couldn’t have weapons, and Varner asked if he could have a golf club. The agent told Varner he could, but couldn’t use it as a weapon.

The complaint notes the agent stated Varner then said “he could kill her with a golf club multiple times.”

He was then instructed to walk away and complied. The agent then walked across the lawn to her vehicle.

According to the complaint, Varner walked toward her again and said he “could kill her with his bare hands,” and continued to state he could kill her and that she would “have to shoot him.”

Varner also allegedly stated: “I know where you live, so you better be careful.”

The agent was then able to get into her vehicle and drive away.

Varner was arraigned in front of Judge Miller on Tuesday, September 10.
