Main Street Center to Celebrate 20th Anniversary on Wednesday
The center was developed from a partnership with the Clarion Area Agency on Aging, Pennsylvania Department of Aging, and DR Enterprises of Clarion. The building, formerly GC Murphy’s, was purchased by DR Enterprises and leased to the Clarion Area Agency on Aging. The Department of Aging also provided a sizable grant for the renovation of the building.
The free-standing senior center also hosts community events such as the annual Autumn Leaf Festival Art Festival. The building was dedicated in 1999 by the Commonwealth Secretary of Aging Richard Brodie. A senior center has been in Clarion since 1977 in various locations such as the Ross Auditorium, VFW, and the Human Services Building.
The senior center is open for those aged 60 and over, Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Weekly activities include exercise class Tuesdays and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 1100 a.m. Tai Chi is held on Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Daily programs can include crafts, musical entertainment, monthly Thera band stretch class, health topics, theme parties, gift card bingo, monthly shopping trips, center outings, and more.
BINGO is open to the public every Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to noon. The jackpot is currently $780.00.
Home-delivered meals for consumers north of I-80 are also packaged at the Main Street Center.
