Midwife Joins Clarion Practice

SENECA, Pa. – Magee-Womens Specialty Services at UPMC Northwest recently welcomed Clarion County native Charity Hansford, certified nurse midwife, to its Clarion Office at 1008 S. 5th Ave.

As trained medical professionals, certified nurse midwives provide care, education, counseling and support to women and newborns during their pregnancy, delivery and the postpartum period. Midwives also provide well-woman care and preventative health services for women and work collaboratively with physicians.

Ms. Hansford completed the certified nurse midwife/women’s health nurse practitioner program at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, where she earned a master’s degree. She earned both a bachelor’s degree and an associate’s degree in nursing from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.

Ms. Hansford is a member of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses.

National Midwifery Week, September 29 through October 5, was created by the American College of Nurse-Midwives, to celebrates and recognize midwives and midwife-led care.
