OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — Police have released the details of the fatal crash that closed the Route 8 by-pass in Oil City on Monday afternoon.

According to police, around 1:24 p.m. on Monday, October 14, officers of the Oil City Police Department were dispatched via Venango County 9-1-1 to the Route 8 by-pass for the report of a two-vehicle accident involving a semi-truck. It was unknown if injuries were involved.

Police say upon their arrival, officers discovered a head-on collision had occurred between a pick-up truck and a tractor-trailer in the southbound lane.

According to police, it was clear that the pick-up truck had left its northbound lane of travel and had fully entered into the southbound lane, where both vehicles came to rest.

The operator of the tractor-trailer neither displayed nor reported any injuries to medical personnel at the scene, according to police.

The operator of the pick-up truck, identified by Venango County Coroner Christina Rugh as 62-year-old Jeffrey Dashner, of Oil City, was trapped inside the vehicle, requiring extrication by members of the Oil City Fire Department.

Dashner was provided immediate advanced life support on scene by Oil City Fire Department and Community Ambulance personnel. He was then transported to UPMC Northwest by Community Ambulance Services, to be flown by an awaiting STAT MedEvac helicopter upon arrival.

Police say Dashner was not flown from UPMC Northwest, as he was pronounced deceased by the attending Emergency Room physician.

According to police, there will be ongoing investigation by Venango County Corner Christina Rugh and the investigating Oil City Police Department officer into the possible cause of death.

The tractor-trailer was removed from the scene by Minich’s Towing and Recovery, and the pick-up truck was removed by Venango Towing and Recovery.

Minich’s Towing & Recovery also provided materials and assistance for the cleanup of fluids at the accident scene.

Police noted the accident currently remains under investigation to determine any possible causational factors not available or apparent at the scene.

The Oil City Police Department would also like to acknowledge the assistance provided at the scene by the Oil City Fire Department, Community Ambulance Services, Oil City Public Works, the Pennsylvania State Police, PennDOT, and the Cornplanter, Seneca, and Rouseville Volunteer Fire Police.
