CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — North Clarion School District will host a new Track Co-Operative with Clarion Area School District starting in 2020 after the Clarion Area School Board approved the arrangement at its October meeting in a 6-1 vote.

The agreement includes Jr. High and Varsity Football and Jr. High and Varsity Boys and Girls Track.

Voting for the co-op were Hugh Henry, Julie Hartley, Dave Estadt, Shane Kriebel, Julie McCormick, and Braxton White. Zachary Shekell voted no, and Melissa Anderson and Todd Bauer were absent.

The 2020 Track and Field KSAC scheduled home meets include Karns City, Keystone, Cranberry, and Clarion-Limestone. Away meets include Moniteau, Union, AC Valley, and Redbank Valley. Invitationals will be added to the schedule.

Departure times will be established once transportation has been finalized. North Clarion is currently working on the co-op agreement.

“There were some driving factors such as the rental fees for continuing to use Clarion University track and field facilities,” said Clarion Superintendent Joe Carrico. “But, the big one was the relationship we would have with North Clarion. They want us to take football and with no funds exchanging hands and they’re going to take Track using the same ideology. The kids will leave here for practice after the end of the school day. Track team members, with permission from parents, track team members can also drive themselves.”

Clarion Area will get to use the North Clarion track facilities at no cost, and North Clarion will pay no fees for the football co-op.

North Clarion is approximately 17 miles from Clarion Area. The estimated cost for transportation to and from practices at North Clarion is $3,224.90. Approximately 35 practices will be held during the season.

An additional agreement states that Clarion Area will host Jr. High and Varsity Football at no cost to North Clarion School District or their athletes in exchange for North Clarion hosting Jr. High and Varsity Boys and Girls Track at no cost to Clarion Area School District or their athletes. All costs incurred by a team will be the responsibility of the host district.

An amendment with C-L Jr. High School extends the length of the agreement to align with the Varsity Football Sponsorship Agreement and set fee payment terms.

Clarion Area and Clarion-Limestone Area agree to:

  1. Amend line 16 of the original agreement from a per athlete fee to a flat rate of $7,500.00 per season, starting with the 2019 season. This rate will remain in effect for three (3) years, ending with the 2021 season, at which time the cost will be reviewed.
  2. Amend the term of the original agreement to extend the length of term to the 2024 season, which aligns it with the term of the Varsity Cooperative Sponsorship Agreement.
  3. The payment of the flat rate will be by the end of the first week of PIAA mandated practices.
