AmeriCorps Celebrates 25 Years of Service

KNOX, Pa. (EYT) – AmeriCorps held a 25th Anniversary Celebration of service to the community on Tuesday, October 15.

The event held at the Wolf’s Den Banquet Hall in Knox also observed the induction of the 2019-2020 AmeriCorps Members as Keystone SMILES’ AmeriCorps Class XXV.

The event recognized the accomplishments of Keystone SMILES and their partners over the past 25 years of service.

Since 1994, Keystone SMILES Community Learning Center has provided schools and other community based organizations with the National Service Resources needed to tutor, mentor and provide hands-on service learning programs aimed to increase academic engagement of students across their 10 county service region.

Over the past 24 years, over 3,000 members have taken the oath to serve their country through the Keystone SMILES AmeriCorps Program and have provided academic support to 70,914 students in 18 school districts across 10 counties in NW PA. Service projects through the years have included the renovations and start up programs for homes for families, underserved communities with preschool program, and save havens for youth in afterschool and summer programs with meal, STEM, homework help, and positive mentors in depressed communities affected by unemployment, economics, and lack of services.
