Oil City Chemical Plant Evacuated Due to Fire

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — The Sasol Oil City Production Facility (formerly Merisol) was evacuated due to a fire in part of the plant Friday afternoon.

According to a representative of Venango County 9-1-1, they received a call reporting a fire in the facility around 2:49 p.m.

Fire companies from Oil City, Rouseville, Seneca, and Cornplanter were dispatched to the scene, along with Community Ambulance Service.

State Route 8 was closed for a time while the firefighters fought the blaze.

Fire police from Oakland Township, Cherrytree Township, Reno, and Seneca, along representatives of the Venango County Sheriff’s Department, assisted with traffic control.

According to the 9-1-1 representative, the fire has been extinguished and the fire companies are currently in the process of cleaning the scene.

No injuries were reported.
