Katie Neely Hired as New YMCA Program Director

CLARION, Pa. – When it comes to sports and aquatics, Katie Neely has what it takes to create fun, positive programs that help kids build confidence.

Katie Neely, of Titusville, was recently hired as the new Clarion County YMCA Program Director to oversee aquatics, youth sports, and adult sports at the YMCA.  Neely has an extensive sports background.  She was involved in volleyball, softball, and competitive swimming in high school.

Neely earned her undergraduate degree in Sports Management at Slippery Rock University.  She will complete her Master’s Degree in Recreation and Sport Administration in 2020.  She completed an internship with the Florida High School Athletic Association and says that experience helped her to grow tremendously.

“I wanted to go into this field because sports shaped who I am today.  They taught me how to set and reach goals, persevere, and I grew so much as a person from every sport I was part of.  I want to help shape lives through sports and this opportunity will allow me to do that.”

Neely has been on the staff at the YMCA for just two weeks and has already helped improve the administration of many programs.  She is focusing on aquatics and youth sports for now, but will add adult sports to the mix soon.

For now, Neely is working to strengthen swim lesson programming and will run the 5th and 6th Grade Basketball program that begins November 2.  She oversees the operation of the swimming pool, hiring, and training the aquatics staff, and planning future youth sports and aquatics programming.  Neely also oversees the YMCA Swim Team.

“Katie Neely is a great addition to the YMCA staff,” said Jesse Kelley, Clarion County YMCA Branch Director.  “Her extensive sports background, positive personality, and organizational skills will take Y programs to the next level.

“There’s no doubt she’s going to help shape the lives of kids in Clarion County.”

Neely is currently encouraging boys and girls in grades 5-6 to sign up for YMCA 5th and 6th Grade Basketball.  The program begins November 2 and is held Saturdays at the YMCA.  She is also accepting new registrations for swim lessons which are held monthly at the YMCA.  Group and private swim lessons are available.

Katie Neely can be reached at 814-764-3400 or by email at programdirector@clarionymca.net.
