Jefferson County Man Jailed on Attempted Criminal Homicide Charge Following Shooting Incident

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) — A Jefferson County man is behind bars on attempted homicide and related charges after an alleged shooting incident on Thursday.

Court documents indicate 29-year-old Brandon Mark Huffman, of Reynoldsville, was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Jacqueline J. Mizerock at 10:40 a.m. on Friday, November 1, on the following charges:

– Criminal Attempt — Criminal Homicide
– Criminal Attempt — Aggravated Assault, Felony 1 (two counts)
– Criminal Attempt — Aggravated Assault, Felony 2 (two counts)
– Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Misdemeanor 2 (three counts)

Unable to post $50,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred outside a Grant Street Extension residence in Reynoldsville on Halloween.

According to a criminal complaint, around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 31, Chief Troy Bell, Sergeant Murray, and Officer Winfield, of the Reynoldsville Borough Police Department, were dispatched to a location on Grant Street Extension for a report of a man firing a gun at a vehicle during a repossession.

When they arrived at the scene, Chief Bell spoke with a known witness who was the driver of the tow truck at the scene.

According to the complaint, the witness reported he and the victim were to do a repossession of a Ford F150 pickup truck belonging to Brandon Mark Huffman. He said when they arrived, the vehicle was in front of the residence, and they confirmed the VIN on the truck with their paperwork. He noted the keys were in the truck, and the truck was unlocked. The victim then began to drive the pickup from the residence.

The witness went on to state that as he was backing out the tow truck to leave, a female came out of the residence and began to run after the pickup, and a male then exited the residence behind her with a gun. He reported the man, later identified as Brandon Huffman, ran out of the residence with a handgun and fired a round toward the pickup truck driven by the victim.

After speaking with the witness, Chief Bell waited for backup before approaching the residence.

Chief Bell and Officer Winfield entered the residence from the back door while troopers from the Pennsylvania State Police entered through the front door. Huffman was then found on the second floor of the residence and apprehended without incident.

According to the complaint, Huffman said the handgun was in the closet in the living room of the residence, and one of the state police troopers recovered it from the top shelf of the closet.

The complaint notes the gun, a Remington 1911 .45 caliber, had a live round in the chamber with the hammer in the cocked back position, and there were six more live round in the eight round magazine.

The gun was then seized and secured as evidence.

Huffman was transported to the station and read his Miranda rights. He exercised his right to remain silent.

According to the complaint, a spent casing was found in the area where the witness said Huffman was standing when he fired the handgun at the victim.

A second witness, the woman who had exited the residence, was then interviewed.

According to the complaint, she reported that she and Huffman were in the residence when they noticed the tow truck outside. She said that Huffman went upstairs while she went outside and ran after the truck because her daughter’s car seat was still inside of it. She said Huffman then ran outside behind her and was “waving” the gun.

According to the complaint, the woman said she told Huffman to put the gun back and continued to run after the truck. She told police she then fell in the grass, and that was when she heard a gunshot. She noted that she did not see which direction Huffman fired because her back was to him at the time.

The complaint notes another witness reported seeing Huffman running after the pickup truck, carrying a handgun, and then also heard a gunshot.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on November 14, with Magisterial District Judge David B. Inzana presiding.
