Max Johnston Pic 2Max A. Johnston, 74, of Oil City, died peacefully after a long, courageous battle with cancer, November 1, 2019 at UPMC Northwest.

Born October 29, 1945 in Oil City, he was a son of the late John and Viola McCune Johnston.

He worked for Rockwell International in California before working many years at, and retiring from Conair/IPEG as an assembly supervisor.

Max was a member of the former Rouseville Fraternal Masonic Lodge #483 and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed woodworking, leatherwork, making guns, hunting, horses, and reading.

He served as a constable in Pinegrove Township for many years.

Mr. Johnston was a member of the Heckathorn United Methodist Church.

He was married to the former Lucinda A. McCoy who preceded him in death on March 25, 2008.

Surviving are a brother, Jerry Johnston and his wife Shirley of Oil City; a sister, Connie Finegan and her husband Floyd of Cochranton; a step-daughter, Rachel Minard and her husband Rick of Bradford; three nieces and nephews, Kenneth Johnston and his wife Cheryl of Oil City, Dwayne Finegan and his wife Christina of Franklin, and Cindy McGill and her husband Zane of Utica; five great nieces and nephews, Brooke Braatz and her husband Brandon of Franklin, Nathan and Breann Finegan of Franklin, and Hanna and Emily McGill of Utica; four step-grandchildren, Quentin Minard, Max Beach, Courtney Gardner, and Braden Gardner; one great-great nephew, his “little buddy,” Brice Braatz; and his dog and constant companion, Lola.

Friends will be received at the Morrison Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm.

A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 1 pm with the Rev. Deborah Ackley-Killian, pastor of Heckathorn United Methodist Church officiating.

Memorials are suggested to the Heckathorn United Methodist Church at 369 Heckathorn Church Rd, Seneca, PA 16346.
