CLARION BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) — A 70-year-old Clarion woman is facing assault and related charges following an incident where she allegedly bit her husband and lunged at him with a broken glass mug.
Court documents indicate the Clarion Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 70-year-old Barbara Ann Stromyer, of Clarion.
According to a criminal complaint, around 7:37 p.m. on Friday, November 1, Clarion Borough Police were dispatched to a residence on Robinwood Drive for a report of an MH/MR situation with a possible assault. The officers were advised that the caller said she assaulted her husband.
Officers Scheckler and Foust arrived at the scene, where Barbara Ann Stromyer came out of the garage to meet them. Stromyer seemed frail and used a cane, according to the complaint.
The officers interviewed Stromyer.
According to the complaint, she said that she had struck her husband on the head and said he was inside. She also showed the officers her hand, which had blood on it. Officer Scheckler then stayed with Stromyer while Officer Foust went inside to speak with her husband.
Stromyer’s husband stated that Stromyer had “lost it” and needed help, according to the complaint.
He reported that she was upset with him and dumped his pills out all over the coffee table. Officer Foust observed the pills on the table.
When asked if Stromyer had been drinking, the victim reported she had been drinking Scotch. He also showed Officer Foust his right arm, which was bruised and bloody. He went on to report Stromyer had bitten him, the complaint states.
Officer Foust noted several glass mugs on the floor, one of which was broken with blood on it. The victim alleged that Stromyer had broken the mug and lunged at him with it. However, when asked if she had struck him on the head, the victim said she had not, the complaint indicates.
Officer Foust then went back out to speak to Stromyer. He asked if she struck the victim with the broken mug, and she stated she did not, according to the complaint.
At that point, EMS were on the scene and were assisting Stromyer to the ambulance to go to the Emergency Room.
The complaint notes before she left, Stromyer told Officer Foust: “I am done with him.”
Officer Foust then went back in to speak to the victim again. He insisted that Stromyer should not get into any trouble and said he didn’t want her charged with anything, according to the complaint.
Stromyer was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Duane L. Quinn at 11:00 p.m. on November 1, on the following charges:
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Harassment — Subject Other to Physical Contact, Summary
Unable to post $1,000.00 (10%) monetary bail, she was lodged in the Clarion County Jail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5, with Judge Quinn presiding.
