blue gavelVENANGO CO., Pa. (EYT) – A Venango County man who was arrested for DUI with his two-year-old child in the vehicle was sentenced to up to two years in jail on Tuesday.

According to court documents, on Tuesday, November 5, Judge Robert L. Boyer sentenced 37-year-old Lucas Christopher Donze, of Oil City, to up to two years in jail.

He was ordered to a minimum of nine months up to a maximum of two years less one day confinement on one first-degree misdemeanor count of child endangerment and a minimum of 90 days up to a maximum of six months confinement on one first-degree misdemeanor count of DUI, with the sentences to run concurrently.

Donze was also ordered to serve four and a half years of probation following his term of confinement.

He was given credit for 57 days served.

Donze pleaded guilty to the above charges on July 29, 2019.

The charges stem from an incident that occurred at 10:40 a.m. on February 8, 2019, at 201 13th Street, in Franklin, Venango County.

According to a criminal complaint, Patrolman Floor, of the Franklin Police Department, was dispatched on February 8 to McDonald’s for a report of an intoxicated male driving with a child in the vehicle.

Patrolman Floor made contact with Lucas Donze, the driver of a Honda Sedan with a PA registration.

The complaint states that upon speaking with Donze, outward signs of impairment were observed, such as glassy, bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, slowed reaction, and confusion.

Patrolman Floor questioned Donze whether he has taken any illegal drugs, and Donze stated that he did not; he only takes prescription drugs, the complaint states.

Donze performed poorly on SFST (Standardized Field Sobriety Testing) and was arrested for DUI.

A DRE (Drug Recognition Expert) evaluated Donze at the Franklin Police Department, and it was concluded that Donze was under the influence to the degree that he could not safely drive, according to the complaint.

Donze refused any chemical testing.

CYS was contacted for Donze’s two-year-old child who was in the back seat.

Donze was arraigned at 2:00 a.m. on Friday, March 8, in Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland’s office.
