Hearing Set for Sligo, Clarion Pair Accused of Conspiring to Steal PlayStation

CLARION CO., Pa. (EYT) — Two local individuals are facing hearings on Tuesday on facing felony theft charges in relation to the alleged theft of a game system from an area resident.

Court documents indicate that 36-year-old Amanda Danielle Stemmerich, of Sligo, and 32-year-old Donald Paul Anthony, of Clarion, are scheduled to stand for preliminary hearings in front of Magisterial District Judge Jeffrey C. Miller at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12.

They each face the following charges:

– Conspiracy — Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Felony 3 (two counts each)

Both defendants are free on $1,000.00 unsecured bail each.

The charges stem from an investigation into a theft that occurred at a Sligo residence in June.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 10:43 p.m. on June 14, a known victim contacted the Clarion-based State Police to report a theft at his Sligo residence.

Trooper Drayer responded to the scene and made contact with the victim who reported that he had left his residence around 7:00 p.m. to go fishing, and upon his return discovered that his Playstation 4 game system was missing from his bedroom.

The complaint notes that the victim told police that the only two people that were at his residence during the day were Amanda Stemmerich and Donald Anthony.

According to the complaint, on June 15, Trooper Osche retrieved the Playstation 4 game system from an area store and transported it to the Clarion-based State Police barracks where it was logged into evidence. Along with the game system, troopers also received a receipt from the store showing that the game system was exchanged by Amanda Stemmerich.

Stemmerich was later interviewed at the Clarion-based State Police barracks.

According to the complaint, she stated that on June 14, she and the victim went to her house in Clarion Borough to move her things while Anthony stayed at the victim’s house. She said when they returned, Anthony was in a hurry to go to Butler and said the person they were going to stay with was waiting for them at the Butler Mall. However, she noted when they got to Butler, the individual was not at the mall and they then went to Anthony’s friend’s house and took their belongings inside. She reported Anthony then told her “his buddy” gave her a Playstation to take to the Butler Mall and exchange for money. They then got a ride to the mall and took the Playstation to a store to exchange for money. She noted she exchanged it under her name because Anthony said he didn’t have a valid ID and said as soon as the store employee gave her the money, Anthony took it from her hand.

Anthony was also interviewed in relation to the theft. According to the complaint, Anthony gave a written statement relating that when Stemmerich had gone to her residence to pack their things, she told him to get the victim’s Playstation game system packed up to take into a store to exchange. He said he bagged up the game system and their other things and took everything outside, and as soon as Stemmerich returned, they loaded all of their things into the vehicle and went to Butler. He noted that he carried the game system in a bag into the store and Stemmerich turned the game system over to the store in exchange for $96.00 using her ID and information. He stated that he believed both he and Stemmerich had equal involvement in the crime.

Stemmerich and Anthony were both arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Jeffrey C. Miller on October 23.
