80-Year-Old Man Flown to Hospital After Truck Crashes into Utility Pole

SYKESVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) — An 80-year-old man was flown to UPMC Altoona after he fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a utility pole on Friday afternoon.

DuoBois-based State Police Tpr. D’Andrea said the accident happened around 3:20 p.m. when Earl R. Aimino, of Indiana, Pa., fell asleep while traveling on West Main Street in Sykesville Borough, causing his 2009 Ford F-250 SuperCab to exit the roadway.

Aimino’s vehicle then collided with a utility pole before overturning onto its passenger side.

Police said Aimino was transported by Sykesvllle Ambulance to Penn Highlands DuBois before being flown to UPMC Altoona by STAT MedEvac.

His injuries were classified as minor.

Corporal Stutsman, Trooper Connor, and Sykesville VFD assisted at the scene.

Zimmerman’s Towing removed Aimino’s vehicle from the scene.
