Community Comes Together for Local Girl Who Needs Heart Transplant
Alexa McCauley, daughter of Brady and Kendra McCauley, of New Bethlehem, Pa., was born on August 19, 2016, along with her twin sister Ava. A few months later, Alexa was diagnosed with Left Ventricle Non-Compaction Cardiomyopathy (LVNC).
The family quickly learned that Alexa would someday need a heart transplant but they didn’t know it would come this soon.
On October 25, 2019, Alexa’s heart began to fail severely. Since that date, she has been in Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh and has had a pump placed on the left side of her heart. Alexa will remain on a heart pump at Children’s Hospital until she receives a heart transplant. She is currently adjusting to the pump, working on therapies to gain her strength back until a heart is available.
The wait could be as little as one day or as long as several months.
To help alleviate the cost of medical expenses and other related costs, a spaghetti dinner benefit will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Ever Moore’s Restaurant along Broad Street in New Bethlehem.
Tickets are $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for children 12 and under.
Those who aren’t able to attend the dinner can donate via a GoFundMe fundraiser that has been established for Alexa.
