Local Man Recovering After Being Stabbed Multiple Times During Home Invasion
State Police say the incident occurred when two teens entered an Olive Street home owned by 34-year-old Adam Bell.
According to police, 19-year-old Jeremiah McGrady and 17-year-old Zechariah McGrady, both of Fairview Township, allegedly entered Bell’s home wearing gloves and masks, at which point Bell confronted them. One of the suspects pointed a pistol at Bell. Bell then began to defend himself, and a struggle ensued. The struggle continued outside of the home where Bell was stabbed five times. The two brothers then fled the scene, according to police.
According to police, the “pistol” turned out to be an Airsoft gun.
Bell was flown to Allegheny General Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Bell’s wife and two young children were also in the residence at the time of the attack.
Jeremiah McGrady and Zechariah McGrady are each facing the following charges in connection with the incident:
– Criminal Attempt – Criminal Homicide, Felony 1
– Burglary – Overnight Accommodation – Person Present, Felony 1
– Robbery-Inflict Serious Bodily Injury, Felony 1
– Aggravated Assault, Felony 2
– Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Prop, Misdemeanor 1
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Misdemeanor 2
Preliminary hearings are set September 30.
According to George Hobaugh, the organizer of an online fundraiser established to help the Bell family, Adam remains hospitalized as he is recovering from multiple injuries suffered in the incident.
Hobaugh says Adam’s injuries include a fractured skull, collapsed lung, broken ribs, a fractured hip, a cut in his liver, and a deep cut on his forehead. A main artery was also punctured during the stabbing resulting in five hours of surgery, according to Hobaugh.
“Adam would not like it that I am doing this, which is all the more reason to do it,” said Hobaugh. “He’s a great person who would do anything for anyone.”
