Burglar Shot After Allegedly Threatening Homeowner with Sledgehammer in Limestone Township
LIMESTONE TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State Police say a man was shot Friday during a burglary in Limestone Township, Clarion County.
Clarion-based State Police say the incident happened around 4:00 p.m. when two known male suspects attempted to burglarize an abandoned residence along Kingsville Road.
During the burglary, the men were confronted by the owner of the residence.
According to police, the two men proceeded to threaten the 63-year-old homeowner and attempted to cause bodily injury to him with a sledgehammer, which placed the homeowner in fear.
Police say the homeowner accidentally shot one of the men in the leg with a 9mm revolver during a struggle.
The second man fled the scene on foot, according to police.
Police say the man who was shot was flown to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of a gunshot wound to the leg. He is currently in stable condition.
Authorities have not released the name of either suspect.
The investigation is continuing and charges are pending against both suspects.
