ochsFRYBURG, Pa. (EYT) – Fryburg resident Francis Ochs will serve as the Grand Marshall for the 2015 Mayfest Parade set for Saturday, May 23.

Ochs, who will celebrate her 97th birthday at this year’s event, was the wife of Arthur Obenrader with whom she had 12 children. Obenrader was the co-owner of the Fryburg Lumber Company until his death in June of 1979.

Francis then married Albinus Ochs, Sr. who passed away in August of 1998.

Ochs was an expert seamstress and enjoyed singing.

She was employed at the Clarion State College Library first as a Clerk Typist I and eventually retired as a Library Technician in charge of Carlson Library’s order section.

Ochs’ birthday has been celebrated for the past 12 years during Mayfest at her son Rick’s residence. The first year, the family had no idea that Mayfest was planned for that weekend. It is the only time that all 11 of her living children get together.

The theme for this year’s parade is “A Celebration of Generations… in Red, White, and Blue.”

The parade will begin at 3:00 p.m. on May 23 on the Old Fryburg Road and will proceed through Fryburg and to Marble/Strobleton Road concluding at Guth’s Garage.

Any group, organization, family, or individual is welcome to place an entry into the parade.

Pre-registration is not required until the day of the parade. A copy of the registration form is available here.

This year, a “Family Float” award will be added to fit the theme of the parade.

Those who plan to enter the parade should report to the beginning of Old Fryburg Road off Route 157 to register.

Line up will be at 1:15 p.m.

A pre-parade Pet Social will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the AP Weaver ball field.

Entries in the Pet Social are eligible to take part in the parade.

For the safety of the animals and their owners, horses will not be permitted at Mayfest this year due to an outbreak of equine herpes.
