Union and Clarion-Limestone to Battle for KSAC Boys’ Championship Live on Explore Clarion Radio Tonight
CLARION, Pa. (EYT) – The Clarion-Limestone boys’ basketball team is looking for its third straight KSAC Championship when it meets Union in the KSAC Championship game at 6 p.m. Friday at Clarion University’s Tippin Gym.

A Lions win would also give C-L (20-2 overall, 15-1 KSAC North) four KSAC titles in the last five years, as the school also won the KSAC crown in 2012. The Lions beat Redbank Valley in each of the last two seasons (61-35 in 2015 and 62-50 in 2014) and topped Union, 56-54, in 2012.
Union (16-6, 12-4 KSAC South), on the other hand, is looking for its first KSAC title-game win and its first KSAC title since 2005, which was two years prior to the start of the KSAC Title Game.
The Golden Knights are making their fourth appearance in the KSAC championship tilt having lost to C-L in 2012, to Venango Catholic, 65-61, in 2011, and to Rocky GRove, 67-53, in 2008.
This is the second meeting of the season between the teams with C-L winning the first one, 75-57, Jan. 5 at C-L.
In that game, C-L used a 27-5 second-half run to erase a two-point deficit and get the win. Taylor Smith led the Lions with 21 points while hitting five 3-pointers, and Ian Callen added 18 points. Dan Callen, in his first game back after missing three with a concussion went off for 17 points, 17 rebounds and four blocked shots. Cole Morris paced Union with 20 points, nine assists and three rebounds with Hank Murphy adding 15 points and eight rebounds.
C-L, which is entering the game fresh off being upset by crosstown rival Clarion, 70-63, Wednesday night, has four players averaging in double digits led by recently crowned 1,000-point scorer Dan Callen’s 19.4 ppg. Taylor Smith, who is 36 points shy of 1,000 himself, adds 13.4 ppg, while Noah Rankin is scoring 14.8 with Ian Callen, just a freshman, adding 12.0 ppg.
Union is led a a 1,000-point scorer of its own in Morris, who averages 18.7 ppg. Lucas Bowser chips in 14.4 and Murphy 12.7.
Both teams will move into the District 9 Class A playoffs after the game.
