Karen-Whitney-podium-745x1024CLARION, Pa. – Clarion University President Karen Whitney is one of ten candidates scheduled for interviews for the position of president at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) on Thursday and Friday.

The national search for a new president is in advance of the retirement of current FGCU President Wilson Bradshaw in 2017.

“I love Clarion and will always consider myself a Golden Eagle,” said Whitney. “That said, I am intrigued by the idea of taking what I’ve learned here and throughout my 35-year career in higher education to benefit an entirely new university and group of students. Should a decision to that effect be reached, I’ll be the first to share the news.”

Whitney was appointed Clarion University President in 2010 by the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education in 2010.

Whitney’s interview in Florida is scheduled for Friday at 4:30 pm.

Her application letter for the new position, dated November 8, can be read online here. Other application materials are included, such as what Whitney feels her significant accomplishments have been at Clarion University.

Florida Gulf Coast University was established as the tenth institution in the State University System of Florida, and first opened for students in 1997. Currently, the University enrolls nearly 15,000 undergraduate and graduate students in more than 80 degree and certificate programs on a beautiful 800-acre campus.
