Wallyboe'sSHIPPENVILLE BOROUGH, Pa. (EYT) – Officials say an occupied Shippenville apartment building that used to house Wallyboe’s Pizza and Subs is causing safety concerns.

According to Shippenville Council President Linda Duffee, the borough gave the property owner until the end of August to make repairs to the building, located at 317 Main Street, and get it up to code.

“We still have not had a response,” Duffee said. “We were hoping to get this settled quietly, but we haven’t heard a thing.”

Borough solicitor Steven French mailed the letter to the owner on June 29.

Duffee said the roof is in very bad shape, and shingles have fallen off it and landed on nearby vehicles.

“The last windstorm we had, quite a few shingles came off. People in nearby yards had to pick them up. It’s a real safety issue,” Duffee said. “We are getting a lot of complaints about it.”

“We just don’t want anyone to get hurt because of it,” Duffee said.

Duffee said the borough received a letter from building inspector Jeff Elder, of Bureau Veritas, indicating the building has major structural damage.
