FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – The Sugarcreek Borough Kmart store will permanently close on Sunday, April 8.

Store employees were notified in January when the announcement of the closing was released.

Kmart opened on Allegheny Boulevard in Sugarcreek in 1981 before eventually building a new store nearby in 1994, moving there in 1995.

Nationwide, in the last two years, there have been more than 200 Kmart and about 60 Sears stores either closed or that will close by this fall, including the Sears in the Cranberry Mall, which closed at the end of October, and the Clarion Kmart, which closed in late January.

In Pennsylvania, more than a dozen Kmart stores have closed in the past three years, including stores in Butler, DuBois, Erie, and Coraopolis, and two in the eastern part of the state are closing, as well as the Sugarcreek store, which is set to close in early April.

In Pennsylvania, more than a dozen Kmart stores have closed in the last few years, the closest being in Clarion, Butler, DuBois, and Erie.

Sears Holdings also announced the closing of Sears stores in State College and at Lycoming Mall in Muncy.
