Two Local Men Killed, One Seriously Injured in Fiery Head-On Collision

SALEM TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Two Knox men were killed and an Emlenton man was seriously injured Saturday night in a head-on collision on State Route 208 in Salem Township, Clarion County.

Trooper Jones of Clarion-based State Police said the accident happened around 5:27 p.m. on State Route 208 between Nickleville Road and Ron McHenry Road.

Tpr. Jones said 21-year-old Dylan M. Meals of Knox was traveling east on State Route 208 in a 2005 Chevrolet Colorado in the oncoming lane of traffic and approaching a westbound 2005 Chevrolet 2500HD operated by 21-year-old Brandon T. Switzer of Emlenton.

Both Meals and Switzer made evasive maneuvers towards the berm and the two pickup trucks collided head-on.

Following initial impact, Meals’ vehicle caught fire, according to Tpr. Jones.

Meals and a passenger — 27-year-old Cody J. Cotherman of Knox — were pronounced dead at the scene by Clarion County Coroner Randall Stom.

It is unknown whether Meals and Cotherman were wearing safety belts.

Switzer, who was wearing a safety belt, was transported to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of suspected serious injuries.

The accident was listed as DUI-related; however, no further details were released.

Knox Volunteer Fire Company, Clarion Hospital Ambulance, Emlenton Area Ambulance Service, and Frye’s Towing assisted at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation.
