State System Faculty Members Approve New Contract

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Faculty union members at Pennsylvania’s state-owned universities recently voted to ratify their four-year tentative agreement.

According to a press release, of the APSCUF faculty members who voted, 94 percent were in favor of the deal. The Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties does not tally results by campus.

After members voted last Monday through Wednesday, APSCUF tallied ballots Friday in its Harrisburg office. With this step complete, the document goes to Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education’s Board of Governors for approval.

APSCUF will post the full contract, which expires in 2023, on its website after ratification is complete.

“With this vote, our members accepted lesser increases than those in other statewide unions,” APSCUF President Dr. Kenneth M. Mash said in the release.

“They did so in order to keep tuition low for our students and as an act of reaching out to the governor and the legislature. It is simply unacceptable for Pennsylvania to be last or near last on every measure of state support for public higher education. We have done our part, and now it is time for the governor and the legislature to do their part to properly support our universities at a level that enables us to make public higher education a truly affordable option for working-class Pennsylvanians.”

APSCUF represents about 5,500 faculty and coaches at the State System universities: Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock, and West Chester Universities of Pennsylvania.
