The Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties’ new four-year coaches’ deal runs through June 30, 2023.

“I’m pleased we have reached this agreement with the State System,” APSCUF Coach Executive Leader John Gump said. “Our goal for this process was to secure a contract that provided a fair compensation and benefits package to our coaches while also addressing some issues affecting how we do our jobs. Our coaches work extremely hard and provide significant contributions to our campuses, and I’m pleased this contract acknowledges those efforts.”

Details will be released to the public after the process of ratification and approval is complete. APSCUF expects to begin its ratification process soon, with coaches voting on the agreement early in the spring semester. If affirmed, it will move to the State System Board of Governors for approval.

“This is another example of APSCUF and the State System working together to the benefit of our employees, our campuses, and our students,” State System Chancellor Daniel Greenstein said. “Coaches play an important role at our universities, and we are pleased with the positive outcome this tentative agreement represents.”

APSCUF’s president, Kenneth Mash, added his praise and congratulations.

“The coaches on our negotiations team deserve tremendous credit,” Mash said. “They were tenacious, and they made important advances for their colleagues and their profession.”

The coaches’ previous contract expired June 30, 2019. By law, it remains in effect until a new collective bargaining agreement is ratified.

Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education oversees 14 four-year public universities educating more than 90,000 students. The State System offers more than 2,300 degrees and certificates in more than 530 academic areas. The State System universities are Bloomsburg, California, Cheyney, Clarion, East Stroudsburg, Edinboro, Indiana, Kutztown, Lock Haven, Mansfield, Millersville, Shippensburg, Slippery Rock and West Chester Universities of Pennsylvania.

APSCUF represents about 5,500 faculty and coaches at the State System universities.
