SUMMERVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – A third person has died as a result of a Wednesday afternoon crash near Summerville in Jefferson County. Police have also released the identity of a passenger who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Punxsutawney-based state police say 26-year-old Tyrell F. Ott of St. Marys was traveling south on SR-28 around 4:40 p.m. on Wednesday when, for unknown reasons, his 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse traveled into the oncoming lane and then off the east berm before crashing into a large tree.

Police say Ott’s vehicle continued traveling for approximately 28 feet and struck another tree and then spun counter-clockwise approximately 260 degrees before coming to a rest in the northbound lane. The vehicle then caught on fire.

Ott and a previously unidentified female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene by Jefferson County Coroner Bernard Snyder.

Today, police identified that passenger as 20 year-old Kelsey L. Stahl of St. Marys.

Another passenger, 24-year-old Devin E. Mertz, also of St. Marys, was flown from the scene to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh; today he was pronounced dead.

A passenger in the front seat, 24-year-old Christina M. Karnes of St. Marys was ejected from the vehicle. She was flown from the scene to UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of major injuries.

There is no word on her current condition.

Authorities say the accident remains under investigation.
