Victims Testify in Butler County Sex Abuse Trial
BUTLER COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) — According to sources, two victims alleging sex abuse by 58-year-old Dr. David Evanko, a former Butler County doctor, ended their testimony yesterday in Butler County court.

Evanko, now of Lancaster County, is on trial on two counts each of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a minor, and statutory rape.

Sources say the second victim, now 34 years old, was cross-examined yesterday in day three of the trial by defense attorney Stan Levenson.

The victim testified that he was sexually molested by Evanko, whom he called “Doc”, back when he was still a young boy. He testified that he told his mother about the abuse in 2005.

Sources say five more witnesses are expected to be called for the prosecution for the remainder of the day.

Man Beaten in Apartment Invasion Takes Plea Deal
MERCER COUNTY, Pa (EYT) — According to sources, 21-year-old Anthony L. Alexander of Sharon, Pa., pleaded guilty Tuesday to two charges against him as his case was set to go to trial.

Sources say Alexander, who was stabbed with broken cane during a home invasion robbery in April 2011 in Sharon, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to one count of reckless endangerment and carrying a firearm without a license before Mercer County Common Pleas Court Judge Robert G. Yeatts.

The charges are a third-degree felony and a second-degree misdemeanor that carry maximum prison sentences of 7 years and 2 years, respectively.

In exchange for the plea, prosecutors agreed not to pursue charges of aggravated assault, prohibited possession of a firearm and two counts each of robbery and terroristic threats.

Court documents note an “extensive” juvenile and adult history.

A sentencing date was not listed on court documents for Alexander.

37-year-old Woman Arrested for Burglary in Warren County
WARREN COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) — According to Warren-based State Police, a 37-year-old Jamestown, NY, resident was arrested on 4/11/12 for an incident that was reported on 10/22/11.

Reports indicate that Courtney Marie Edwards has been arrested on felony burglary, felony criminal trespass, misdemeanor theft, and criminal mischief charges for an incident that occurred on Brown Run Road, Mead Township, Warren County, Pa.

Further action on this case in pending.

Mother Pleads Again for Punxsutawney School District Resource Officer
JEFFERSON COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) — According to sources, on Wednesday night Georgette Pennington appealed to the school board once again for hiring a school resource officer; she believes it would cut down on drugs and bullying problems at the high school.

Pennington says her own daughter has been a victim of bullying.

School officials say because of Corbett’s budget cuts, the district can’t afford the cost right now.

Thirty-One Citations Issued on Texting While Driving Ban
HARRISBURG, Pa. (EYT) — According to Pennsylvania state police, 31 citations have already been issued for violations of the state’s five-week-old ban on texting while driving.

Sources say the total doesn’t include the many warnings that also have been issued.

The new law prohibits texting or reading texts, but doesn’t ban the use of hand-held cell phones.

It carries a $50 fine plus costs and gives police the authority to pull over suspected violators on sight.
