YOUNG TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — Punxsutawney-based State Police say around 5:30 a.m. on June 10, a car versus deer accident occurred on State Route 119, Buffalo Pittsburgh Highway, 541 feet west of Cunningham Road, in Young Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, 59-year-old John R. Piper, of Reynoldsville, was traveling south on SR 119, and a deer ran from the east berm onto the roadway directly in front of his 2007 Chevrolet Aveo.

The front of the car impacted the deer, and after impact, the car traveled for 150 feet in a south direction before coming to a stop on the paved west berm of SR 119, police say.

The deer came to rest along the west berm, according to police.

Piper was using a seat belt and was not injured.

The car was hauled from the scene by Rebuck’s Southside Service.
