KNOX TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — Punxsutawney-based State Police say around 4:10 a.m. on June 20, a DUI-related crash occurred on Knoxdale Road near Meade Chappell, Knox Township, Jefferson County.

According to police, a 17-year-old male from Sigel was traveling north on Knoxdale Road when a deer allegedly entered into the path of his 2010 Dodge Journey.

The 17-year-old swerved to the left to avoid the deer and sideswiped a utility pole along the west side of the roadway, police say.

The vehicle came to rest within the roadway.

The 17-year-old was taken into custody for alleged Driving Under the Influence, according to police.

He will be charged through the Jefferson County Juvenile Court System on DUI and related charges.

A passenger in the vehicle, a 15-year-old female from Brookville, was also detained and charges will be filed against her for alleged Underage Consumption/Possession of an Alcoholic Beverage.

Both teens were using seat belts and were not injured.

The vehicle had disabling damage and was towed from the scene.
