BROOKVILLE, Pa. (EYT) – State police say alcohol played a factor in one-vehicle crash that left two Brookville residents seriously injured.

Police say the accident occurred around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday on SR-322 near Winter’s Road in Union Township, Jefferson County, when 21-year-old Cody W. Walter lost control of his 2005 Ford Freestar while traveling at a high rate of speed.

According to reports, Walter failed to negotiate a slight right curve in the roadway.

Walter’s vehicle subsequently traveled off the roadway and struck an embankment.

The vehicle then traveled 80 feet along the embankment and overturned before coming to a rest in the middle of SR-322.

Police say Walter was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

Both Walter and a passenger 38-year-old Jessica M. Blake, of Brookville, were transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment of serious injuries.

Officials say alcohol was a contributing factor to the crash.

Neither occupant was wearing a safety belt.

Corsica VFD, Brookville Fire Company, and Jefferson County EMS assisted at the scene.
