Wanted Corsica Man Apprehended

CORSICA, Pa. (EYT) – A Corsica man wanted in connection with the assault of a 36-year-old woman has been taken into custody, according to police.

ExploreClarion.com spoke with a representative from Punxsutawney-based state police who confirmed that 36-year-old Kirk Michelitsch was taken into custody earlier today.

Michelitsch is accused of assaulting a 36-year-old woman last night around 6:00 p.m. at their Church Street residence in Corsica. Police say the accused also threatened the victim with a knife.

Last night dozens of law enforcement officials were on the scene in the area of the residence. At least one helicopter was spotted circling overhead.

One source near the scene said police used a loud speaker repeatedly in an attempt to establish communication with Michelitsch. Several nearby residents reported being asked by police to stay in their homes and keep their doors locked during the incident.

During the incident, Michelitsch fled the scene.

He was taken into custody earlier today by Trooper Jason Scholl of Clarion-based state police.

Michelitsch was placed in the Jefferson County Prison on $50,000 bail.

He faces one count of felony aggravated assault, one count of terroristic threats, two counts of simple assault, two counts of recklessly endagngering another person, and one count of summary harassment.

A preliminary hearing is set for September 9.

Several attempts to reach Clarion-based state police for comment were unsuccessful.
