Work Resumes on I-80 Bridge Rehabilitation Project in Clarion and Jefferson Counties

CLARION, Pa. – PennDOT Engineering District 10 is advising motorists that work will resume on Monday, March 5 on the rehabilitation of five bridges on Interstate 80 in Clarion and Jefferson Counties. The bridges are located in Beaver Township, Clarion County, and Brookville Borough in Jefferson County.

Between March 5 and March 18, weather permitting, containment systems will be installed on the Canoe Creek bridge and on the westound side of the Deer Creek bridge on I-80 Westbound in Clarion County between Exit 60, Shippenville, and Exit 53, Knox, and on the North Fork bridge in Jefferson County between Exit 81, Hazen, and Exit 78, Brookville. Width restrictions of 14 feet will be in place during daylight hours in the project areas.

Between March 19 and April 1, weather permitting, the containment systems will be installed on the Canoe Creek bridge and on the eastbound side of the Deer Creek bridge on I-80 Eastbound in the same project areas as described above in Clarion and on the North Fork bridge in Jefferson Counties. A 14-foot width restriction will be in place for the I-80 Eastbound lanes during daylight hours.

Beginning, Monday, April 2 barriers will be set for a permanent lane closure in the project areas on I-80, both Eastbound and Westbound in Clarion and Jefferson Counties. The permanent lane closures will be in place until mid-November. Along with the permanent lane closure, an 11’6” width restriction will be in place on I-80 Eastbound and Westbound from Exit 53, Knox, to Exit 60, Shippenville in Clarion County, and Exit 79, Brookville, to Exit 81, Hazen, in Jefferson County. The width restriction will be in place until mid-November.

Work will include steel repairs, bearing and expansion dam replacements, painting of the five structures, and other bridge repairs as required. The structures include the Deer Creek bridge and the eastbound and westbound Canoe Creek bridges in Clarion County and the eastbound and westbound North Fork bridges in Jefferson County.

Motorists are advised to expect congestion and delays in the project areas.

The $19,411,304 rehabilitation of five bridges on Interstate 80 in Clarion and Jefferson Counties will be completed by Swank Associated Companies, Inc. The project began in 2011 and is expected to be completed in Summer 2014.
