Fundraiser Organized for Boy in Need of Heart Transplant

BUTLER COUNTY, Pa. (EYT) — A GoFundMe fundraiser has been organized for a local boy in need of a heart transplant.

The fundraiser has been started for 8-year-old John Clark, of Valencia.

Prior to November 2023, John was a healthy and active boy. Nevertheless, a routine dental procedure caused bacteria to travel to his heart, according to fundraiser organizer Shelly Suski.

After a few days of progressive illness, John was life-flighted to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh where he underwent lifesaving open heart surgery. During the surgery, he suffered a massive stroke. It is noted that he did not fully recover from the heart surgery, and in December 2023,  he went into cardiac arrest. During the life-saving measures, his heart was damaged beyond repair.

For 20 days, John was in a medically induced paralysis. He woke up, but due to cardiac arrest, his body shut down certain functions to protect his brain, and this resulted in the amputation of his left leg. His rehabilitation has been long and complicated. Despite facing countless medical procedures and complications,  he has remained full of spirit and hope. When asked about how he felt about losing his leg and needing a heart, he simply replied, “Normal.”

Doctors have determined that he urgently needs a heart transplant to survive.

As John waits for a new heart, his family is facing mounting medical bills and travel expenses for consultations with specialists.

Every dollar donated will go directly toward supporting John’s medical expenses, ensuring that he receives the treatments he needs.
