Willie-Owens-1539632181Willie M. Owens, 74, of Oil City, departed this life, Saturday morning, October 13, 2018, at UPMC Hamot in Erie.

Born July 1, 1944, in Reform, Alabama, he was a son of the late Hoy and A.D. Sanders Owens.

After graduating from high school, Willie enlisted in the US Air Force and served during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Owens worked for Pennzoil and Calumet Lubricants of Rouseville and Penreco of Karns City, and after retirement, became a bus driver for Venango County Bus Transportation. Throughout his career with Pennzoil and Penreco, he was very active with the Local OCAW 8-455.

Willie enjoyed sports, especially the Steelers and Alabama (Roll Tide) college football games. Whenever possible, he loved to play golf with friends and family. He was a member of the VFW Post #464, Oil City.

On July 15, 1972, he was married to the former Diana Lyles, who survives.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, Willie M. Owens II of Butler; and two grandsons, Donte Brandon and Myrik Owens, both of Butler.

Also surviving are a sister, Jeanette Hayes of Oil City; two brothers, Charles Owens of Oil City, and Claude Owens of Windsor Mills, Maryland; and a number of cousins, nieces, and nephews who refer to him as their, “Uncle Boot.”

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha L. Owens; a sister, Lula Mae Bradley; and three brothers, James Owens, Curtis Owens, and John Owens.

Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the Morrison Funeral Home in Oil City, and again from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the New Life Family Worship Center in Franklin. Funeral services will be held at the New Life Family Worship Center on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Grove Hill Cemetery.
