Elizabeth “Betty” Mader

5503973_fbsElizabeth “Betty” Mader, 85, of Tionesta Avenue, Kane, died Friday evening, November 2, 2018, in her home after a recent illness.

Born June 9, 1933, in Fryburg, she was the daughter of Jacob C. and Margaret C. Brothers Groner. On July 2, 1955, in Kane, she married Harold L. “Fuzzy” Mader, who died in 2007.

Betty worked at Stackpole Corp. in Kane for 27 years, and briefly at the CeraMag division. She was a caregiver for elderly residents in the area for sixteen years and earned the degree of Certified Nurse’s Assistant. She also was a custodian at the former Kane Gas Light & Heating Co. in Kane.

She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Kane, where she was involved with the Sharing Room. Her volunteerism also included The Lutheran Home at Kane for ten years, Meals on Wheels and Angel Food Ministries.

Surviving are daughters Karen (John) Smith of James City, Susan (Steve) Meyers of Kane, Christine (Christopher) Dana of Mooresville, N.C. and Brenda (Jason) Stillman of Lancaster, Pa.; a son, Harold L. “Bud” Mader, Jr. of Lincolnton, N.C., nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death, besides her husband and parents, by a son, James “Fuzzy” Mader; brothers Joseph, William and Charles Groner, and sisters Frances Ellen Heatherdale, Annabelle Ochs and Mary Louise Hinkle.

Friends may call at the Ronald McDonald II Funeral Home, Inc. on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and may attend a service at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church in Kane with the rev. Calvin Cook, pastor, officiating. Interment, with a private graveside service, will precede the service in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
