SPONSORED: Knee Pain from Impingement Syndromes

CLARION, Pa. (EYT) – If you have anterior knee pain it may instead be from inflamed soft tissues underneath your kneecap.

“My knee hurts when I go up or down stairs. Is this arthritis?”

There are three fat pad impingement syndromes of the knee, and these can result in pain when going up or down stairs, walking downhill, squatting, or bending the knee. The pain comes from inflammation in one of the cushioning soft tissues around the kneecap and can be caused by trauma, arthritic spurs, sports/work injuries, and overuse.

The pain with these impingement syndromes is very exquisite and can be debilitating. Dr. Barrett explained there are three fat pad impingement syndromes of the knee, each with different causes and exam findings. More likely than not if you have suffered from anterior or generalized knee pain you have experienced one of these problems.

Through a physical examination, musculoskeletal ultrasound, and diagnostic session with our Shockwave device, the providers at Regen Rx can help identify the cause of your knee pain and offer effective solutions through non-invasive or minimally invasive PRP regenerative medicine procedures. If an impingement syndrome is the root cause of your pain, their Shockwave, High Energy Inductive Therapy (HEIT), and Class IV Musculoskeletal Laser can help eliminate pain, resolve inflammation, improve blood flow, and reduce the scarring in these knee pads for a pain-free, healthy, strong, properly functioning knee.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) can be precisely infiltrated into the inflamed fat pad to utilize your concentrated growth factors and anti-inflammatory cytokines to promote healing if desired.

Dr. Barrett said: “The number of knee arthritis patients that we have seen that have inflammation and pain coming from impingement from one of the three fat pads is very high. When arthritis flares up patients need to be aware that is not the cartilage being thin, or even “bone on bone” necessarily causing an acute flare. The altered movement of the knee pinches and inflames these soft-tissue structures and that can generate what feels like diffuse knee pain. If we can reduce the fibrosis, thickening, and edema in these fat pads with Shockwave we can relieve a great deal of knee pain. We have developed some innovative application techniques with our Shockwave devices to target the pain-generating tissues very precisely with outstanding results. These fat pads are fairly easy to treat with the Class IV Musculoskeletal Lasers but need to be precisely and deliberately targeted with very specialized techniques with Shockwave and High Energy Inductive Therapy (HEIT) and our providers know how to do that effectively.”

Lindsay Barrett, the patient care coordinator at Regen Rx explained how patients can seek care through their practice: “New patients with knee pain will be seen with a two-session intake which includes the appropriate non-invasive procedures after consultation and examination with one of our doctors. This evaluation includes a high-resolution diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound if the patient is being evaluated for PRP or Prolotherapy. The sessions are about one week apart, and this allows the patient to experience Shockwave, Class IV Musculoskeletal Laser, and HEIT. Our providers can then assess the cause and treatment response of your knee pain. This will help determine if our services would be of benefit in your case. On the second visit as you follow up and discuss your response to the first session, we will be able to give our program recommendations for you to consider. We have several options depending on your diagnosis including programs with our non-invasive medical devices and/or minimally invasive platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections. The cost for these two sessions is $350 and regenerative medicine services such as these are not covered by insurance. This fee would be credited towards a package or a program if one is recommended and further care is desired by the patient.”
