Clarion Men’s Swimming & Diving: Golden Eagles Wrap Exciting Friday at NCAA Championships

GENEVA, Oh.Zach Schering earned his fifth career All-American placement, and the trio of David BocciConnor Cary, and Michael Flamm earned All-America Honorable Mention honors, as the Golden Eagle men’s swimming & diving team wrapped up the penultimate day of the 2024 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships.

Earlier this week Schering was the national runner-up in the Men’s 1-Meter Dive, and on Friday he added another finals appearance to his career resume by making the final round of the Men’s 3-Meter Dive.  The junior from nearby Massillon, Ohio added yet another All-American trophy to his mantle in the process, taking fifth overall with a score of 542.95.

Schering was not the only Golden Eagle diver to add some hardware on Friday. Freshman Michael Flamm – fresh of his own first-ever appearance in a national final – won the consolation final of the 3-Meter Dive, nailing a big dive on his final attempt of the round to put up a score of 503.55.

In the pool, two Golden Eagle swimmers earned the opportunity to compete again on Friday night, with the duo of David Bocci and Connor Cary reaching the consolation heat of the 200 Fly. Both swimmers logged their best times of the season – and in the case of Cary, the best of his career –  in the preliminary round, with Bocci placing 11th in the early session with a time of 1:56.65, and Cary 12th with a 1:46.90.

That was enough to put the pair in the consolation final. Bocci improved one spot in the standings, taking 10th with a 1:46.89, while Cary placed 15th with a 1:47.77.
