CUP 4×400 Relay Team Paces Way at California (Pa.) Early Bird

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Clarion track & field team returned to action on Saturday, with the Golden Eagles competing at the California Early Bird event.

The 4×400 Relay team of Courtney Corban, McKayla Hoover, Danielle Tarr and Tatiana Cloud paced the field with a time of 4:02.31. They surpassed the mark set by the second place team by less than a second; IUP’s “A” team finished with a time of 4:02.97.

Cloud turned in the third-fastest time in program history in the 400 Hurdles, winning the event with a time of 1:02.65. Corban was just behind in second place at 1:06.39. Cloud now has three of the five fastest times in program history in the event.

The Golden Eagles also had a strong day in the distance events, with Kayce Bobnar authoring a third-place finish in the 5000m. Bobnar completed the race in 18:45.03 to lead all Clarion runners in the event; Katie Chambers (7th – 19:06.63) and Danielle Vensel (9th – 19:17.79) also added top-10 finishes.

Kari Steuer authored a win in the Shot Put, clearing the second-place mark by nearly six full inches. Steuer tossed the implement 12.51m, her best toss of the season. Katie Brest joined her in the top-10 in the event, taking 10th with a toss of 10.48m.

Elsewhere in the field, Abby Gluvna took fifth place in the Javelin Throw; the freshman tossed the implement 35.22m. Kristen Belko took fourth in the High Jump with a leap of 1.53m while Hoover came in seventh at 1.48m, and Katie Helwig tied for fifth place in the Pole Vault with a mark of 2.94m that was the fourth-best in program history. Jessica Shomo rounded out the excellent work in the field with a fifth-place mark in the Long Jump, taking off for a 5.08m leap.
