UPDATE: Man Awaits Preliminary Hearing After Allegedly Striking Two Officers with Stolen Motorcycle in Monroe Twp.

greenawalt-mugMONROE TWP., Pa. (EYT) — A 31-year-old man is facing over 20 charges after allegedly striking two state police officers with a stolen motorcycle.

Court documents indicate Clarion-based State Police filed criminal charges against 31-year-old Anthony James Greenawalt, Jr., of Kersey.

According to a criminal complaint, on April 22, PSP Clarion received a BOLO from St. Mary’s Police Department regarding a stolen, green 2010 Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle being operated by Anthony Greenawalt. It was learned that Greenawalt was staying at the Super 8 hotel off Exit 62 of Interstate 80.

The complaint indicates that Trooper Norris and Cpl. Yoder went to the Super 8 hotel and spoke with a female who indicated that Greenawalt just left on a motorcycle to get something to drink.

The complaint states that Troopers Hageter and Wilson conducted a check of the area, and Greenawalt was located in the parking lot of Kwik Fill station on the green Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle being sought. Greenawalt attempted to exit the parking lot onto Township Road 792 but was stopped by Trooper Hageter who entered the parking lot from Township Road 792. Traveling in a patrol car, Trooper Wilson proceeded to approach Greenawalt from the rear.

“Trooper Hageter exited his vehicle to confront Greenawalt and told him to stop and shut the motorcycle off. Greenawalt refused and proceeded to accelerate to escape from Troopers Hageter and Wilson. As he accelerated, he struck the right leg of Trooper Hageter and the leg of Trooper Wilson with the motorcycle. He then proceeded to strike the patrol car before troopers removed him from the motorcycle.” He allegedly continued to resist arrest and fought with the troopers while they placed him in custody. He was placed in the rear of a patrol unit, the complaint continues.

For the officers’ safety, a search of Greenawalt’s backpack was conducted; it revealed items of drug paraphernalia that included a syringe and five glass smoking pipes, the complaint states.

Cpl. Yoder and Trooper Norris responded to the scene.

When Trooper Norris spoke with Greenawalt, “he observed his eyes were pinpoint and his actions showed him very agitated, upset, paranoid, and defiant, and his mood varied from crying to being verbally belligerent,” according to the complaint.

Based on these indicators, he was transported to the Clarion Hospital for the purpose of obtaining a legal blood draw to determine the presence of a controlled substance. After several requests, Greenawalt refused being tested, the complaint states.

During the investigation, the following items were discovered:

– A Pa. registration plate covered the registration plate that was assigned to the motorcycle.
– Greenawalt’s driving privileges were suspended.
– Greenawalt did not possess a valid Class M endorsement on his license for operating a motorcycle.
– There was an active Bench Warrant for Greenawalt.

Greenawalt was transported to the Clarion County Jail based on the bench warrant from Elk County.

He was arraigned at 1:30 p.m. on April 23 in front of Magisterial District Judge Timothy P. Schill.
