Police Investigating Phone Scams in Leeper, Clarion

FARMINGTON TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Marienville-based State Police say phone scams occurred at a residence in Leeper, in Farmington Township, and at a residence in Clarion.

According to police, a 48-year-old Leeper woman and a 56-year-old Clarion woman were contacted by an unknown male by phone. The male advised the victims that they had been selected to receive a large grant from the federal government. They were told to purchase money gram cards and provide the codes in order to cover processing fees, etc. They were told that the grant money would then be deposited in an account or wired to them.

The victims provided a total of $3942.00 in codes and did not receive grant money, police say.

The incidents occurred sometime between May 16 and May 23.
