Catherine “Kitty” Matchulet died peacefully on August 12, 2016, in Virginia Beach at the age of 89.
Kitty was born on February 6, 1927, in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Indiana Teachers College with a degree in Elementary Education. She married Layton in Ridgeway, Pennsylvania in 1953 where they met when both were teachers. After moving to Oil City, Kitty was involved in many community groups such as Garden Club, TWIG and Belle Letters.
Kitty is survived by her daughter Mary Bottomley of Virginia Beach, her son in law Glenn Bottomley, granddaughters Christy Bottomley and Abby Bottomley all from Virginia Beach. She is also survived by son in law Gerry Hatfield of Philadelphia, granddaughter Marykate Hatfield of Denver, Colorado and grandson Gavin Hatfield of Philadelphia.
Kitty is preceded in death by her husband Layton Matchulet of Oil City, daughter Anne Matchulet of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, parents William and Ruth Novick and siblings, Mary Margaret, William and John.
A funeral mass will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 27, at St. Stephen Church in Oil City. The family will be meet friends at the church from 1:30 to beginning of Mass.
