Betty J. Barner Dummett

bettyBetty J. Barner Dummett of 435 N. Broad St., Grove City, passed away at 12:55 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016, in Grove Manor after a brief illness. She was 88.

She was born in Templeton, Pa., on Aug. 11, 1928, to Howard Maurice Barner and Dorothy Fravel Barner.

She was a 1946 graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage.

She married Harry A. Dummett on Oct. 29, 1946; he died on Feb. 17, 2003.

She was a homemaker and of the Presbyterian faith.

She loved spending time with her family and playing games with her grandchildren. She was an avid baker who loved baking birthday cakes for family and loved sitting around the campfire, short trips and picnics. She was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates fan.

She is survived by three sons, Jack G. Dummett and his wife Ruthie, Grove City; Kenneth L. Dummett and his wife Ellen, Grove City; and William A. Dummett and his companion Cathy, Oil City; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Richard Barner and his wife Audrey, Palm Bay, Fla.; Harry C. Barner and his wife Sally, Mercer; Thomas C. Barner and his wife Betsy, Hermitage; and David Barner and his wife Kay, Colorado.

In addition to his parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Elizabeth Coleman Barner; and a brother, Clair Barner.

Calling hours are 1 p.m. to time of service Sunday (10-9-16) in CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME, Inc., 144 S. Pitt St., Mercer.

The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home with Pastor Jeremy Stouffer, chaplain of Grove Manor, Grove City, officiating.

Burial will be at America’s Cemetery, Hermitage.
