CLARION, Pa. (EYT) — Officials say an active shooter situation at the Clarion Hospital on Monday morning was a false alarm triggered by a computer.

According to Clarion Hospital Director of Marketing Julie Kunselman, the Pennsylvania State Police were dispatched around 6:15 a.m. after an alarm was activated at the hospital.

“Throughout the hospital, protocol was followed and the situation was taken care of,” said Kunselman. “They did a complete search of the facility and nothing was found.”

Witnesses reported that around 6:30 a.m. multiple armed troopers surrounded the building. Shortly afterward, the hospital was placed on lockdown.

Approximately twenty state troopers from multiple barracks were on the scene, according to Clarion-based State Police Tpr. Cloak.

“No one was in danger and no threat was found,” said Tpr. Cloak.

Cloak said the active shooter alarm was triggered via a computer by a specific code indicating an active shooter was present.

It’s unclear how or why the alarm was triggered.

The hospital was taken off of lockdown at 8:09 a.m.

Troopers cleared the scene around 8:30 a.m.

Clarion Fire and Hose Co. was also dispatched to the scene.

Clarion Hospital and the Pennsylvania State Police continue to investigate the incident. Further information is expected to be released upon completion of the investigation.
