Redbank Valley High School Robotics Team Qualifies for Regionals

DUBOIS, Pa. — The Redbank Valley High School Robotics team recently participated in a two-day BEST (Boosting Engineering, Science and Technology) Robotics Competition at Penn State DuBois Campus on October 21 and October 22.

Redbank qualified with an overall third-place finish. The team placed second in the Engineering Notebook, Programming, and Robotics divisions while earning third place for their Marketing Presentation, Spirit and Sportsmanship, and Booth display.

“Bet the Farm” is the theme for this year’s competition. Teams have three minutes to earn as many points as possible while collecting and sorting various types of materials representing different kinds of crops. Additional points can be earned by gathering pigs into a pen and using the robot’s arm to spin a water wheel.

The team consists of 22 members-11 boys and 11 girls in grades 7 through 12. There are four areas within the team-building, design, marketing, and notebook.

The Cultivating Canines will be traveling to Fargo, North Dakota, to participate in the National Plains Regional Competition taking place from December 1 to December 3.

BEST Robotics, Inc. is a non-profit, volunteer organization whose mission is to inspire middle through high school students to pursue careers in engineering, science, technology and mathematics through participation in a sports-like, hands-on, real-world, engineering-based robotics competition.
