State Police Warn Public of Phone Scam

CLARION CO., Pa. (EYT) — Clarion-based State Police say a theft/scam involving elderly Clarion County victims occurred earlier this month in Paint Township, Clarion County.

According to police, around 3:00 p.m. on December 6, an unknown perpetrator called a known male and female, age 82, of Clarion County, and pretended to be their grandson who claimed to have been involved in a car accident while DUI in New York.

A short while later, another male called the elderly victims claiming to be the grandson’s public defender and needed $2,500.00 to bail him out of jail. The victims were told to use money grams and send the money, which they did, police say.

Police warn, “If anyone claiming to be from any Government Agency requesting you send them money, it is going to be a scam.”
