Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department Conducts Extraction Training

WASHINGTOWN TWP., Pa.(EYT) — The value of partnerships can never be underestimated.

For the Clarion Hospital Emergency Medical Services Department, its partnership with the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department meant that its current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) class had the chance to learn how to safely get someone out of a wrecked vehicle at a recent training session.

“One of our members, Mike Buzard, led the class and showed the class what kind of situations they may face and how to safely remove someone from a wrecked vehicle,” Fire Department Chief Brady Kapp, Jr. said. “If you don’t work together, you’re going to have trouble getting things done.”

The partnership also included Triple S Recycling in Tionesta, which provided the junk cars for the training.

“They get the cars for us to do this type of training,” Kapp said. “Whenever and wherever we need them, they get them for us.”

Buzard works for Clarion Hospital Ambulance Service and teaches EMS classes that help those working in the field or who are members of area volunteer fire companies.

Those working or volunteering in the Emergency Services field need the training to become certified.
