Williams, Dodd Lead Karns City Past Keystone in Baseball Action

BUTLER, Pa. (D9Sports) — Karns City broke out the bats Tuesday afternoon rolling to a 15-0, three-inning win over visiting Keystone at Kelly Automotive Park in Butler.

A five-run first and nine-run third fueled the Gremlins (2-0) victory.

Senior catcher Cullen Williams led the way going 2-for-2 with four RBIs and two runs scored.

Winning pitcher Eric Dodd also had a strong outing going 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, a stolen base, three RBIs and two runs scored. He got the three-inning shutout allowing just one hit and two base runners over the three innings while facing just one batter over the minimum. He struck out four.

Williams talked about the win.

Karns City put its stamp on the game early scoring five times in the bottom of the first while seeing its first four batters reach base.

RBI singles to right by Tyler Yough, the hero of Saturday’s win over Brookville, and Williams made it 2-0. A wild pitch played Yough to make it 3-0, and when Dodd singled to left with one out it was 4-0. A throwing error by shortstop Corey Rapp closed out the scoring in the inning for the Gremlins.

Williams’ one-out sacrifice fly to left in the second scored Marcus Lantz, who had singled with one out, making it 6-0.

Then in the third, Dodd and Jace Ebbitt started the nine-run rally with back-to-back walks leading off the inning, and a double to left by Colton Hutchinson made it 8-0 followed by an RBI single to let by Steve O’Donnell to make it 9-0.

That was the end of the day for Keystone starter Devin Dunkle, who allowed 10 runs, eight earned, on nine hits and three walks while striking out one.

Dawson Steele relieved Dunkle but got almost no help from his defense, as three errors in two batters after he struck out Jimmy Thompson kept the Gremlins rally alive.

Williams followed with a two-run single to right to make it 12-0, and following a walk to pinch hitter Jacob King, Dodd drove a ball into center for a two-run double making it 14-0. Another pinch hitter, Jacob Weckerly, then ended the game two batters later with a single to left.

Lantz also had a strong day at the plate for Karns City going 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, two stolen bases and three runs scored — he also reached on an error. Young was also 2-for-3 while a pair of singles and an RBI while reaching on an error as well. Hutchinson was 2-for-2 with thre double and two RBIs.

Rapp had Keystone’s lone hit, a one-out double in the first but got doubled off first when Sawyer Reed flew out to center. Skylar Kagle also drew a walk for the Panthers (0-1).
