Police: Sigel Man Breaks into Summer Home to Do Meth, Eats Clam Chowder

JEFFERSON CO., Pa. (EYT) — A Sigel man is facing burglary and related charges stemming from an incident that occurred on O’Donnell Road, in Sigel, Jefferson County.

According to a criminal complaint, around 3:40 p.m. on March 28, Trooper Smith, of PSP Marienville, met with a known, woman who stated that she and her 82-year-old mother decided to check on their summer home on O’Donnell Road in Sigel. The woman stated that she pulled into the driveway, and both she and her mother exited the vehicle. As she walked across the road to check the mailbox, her mother made her way to the front door.

The complaint states that when the known woman entered her summer home, her mother was talking to a tall, white man with black hair wearing a Pittsburgh Pirates t-shirt standing in the entrance to the bathroom. The known woman asked the man who he was and why he was in their house. He told her that he had a fight with his girlfriend and that his friend told him that he could stay at the house because the owners were out of town.

The man had taken a shower, and he was holding a handful of clothes. Most of the downstairs windows had been covered with sheets or blankets, and the fireplace was burning. The known woman told the man that she had to call the police, and he became agitated and said, “Don’t call the police. I’m in enough trouble already, and I just live down the road.” As the woman began to dial 911, the man opened the rear sliding glass door and fled on foot into the woods, the complaint indicates.

On the following morning — based on the information provided by the victims — Trooper Smith became aware that 29-year-old Channing Alexander Glenn, of Sigel, was wanted by Jefferson County Adult Probation Department. Glenn lives at 1766 O’Donnell Road, which is approximately 400 yards from the vicim’s seasonal residence, the complaint continues.

Officer Smith traveled to 1766 O’Donnell Road, in Sigel, and took Glenn into custody without incident, according to the complaint.

Prior to transport, “Glenn was searched and found to be in possession of a multi-colored glass smoking pipe in his left sock and a small clear sandwich size bag containing a small amount of suspected marijuana in his right sock,” the complaint states.

Glenn was secured in a marked patrol vehicle and subsequently mirandized prior to transport to PSP Marienville. During the transport, “Glenn admitted to his involvement of unlawfully entering the victims’ residence in order to avoid a surprise visit from the Jefferson County adult probation officer or his state parole officer,” according to the complaint.

Glenn also “admitted to using the residence to further his addiction to meth,” the complaint states.

In addition, Glenn confessed via a recorded video interview as well as a signed written statement “to consuming a can of Campbell’s clam chowder,” the complaint continues.

According to court documents, Glenn was arraigned at 10:30 a.m. on April 28 in front of Magisterial District Judge Gregory M. Bazylak on the following charges:

– Burglary — Overnight Accommodation, No Person Present, Felony 1
– Criminal Trespass-Enter Structure, Felony 3
– Marijuana-Small Amount Personal Use, Misdemeanor
– Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor
– Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Misdemeanor 3

Unable to post $50,000.00 monetary bail, Glenn was lodged in the Jefferson County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. on May 11 with Judge Bazylak presiding.

Glenn is also facing a preliminary hearing on May 2 at 11:30 a.m. in front of Judge Bazylak stemming from a December 9, 2016 case for drug possession and related offenses.
