Zacherl Finishes Third at United World Wrestling University Freestyle Nationals

AKRON, Ohio – Brock Zacherl rolled his way to an impressive third-place finish at the 2017 United World Wrestling University Freestyle Nationals this past weekend, recording a 7-1 mark that included a number of technical falls and wins over some of collegiate wrestling’s best.

The big moment came in the third-place match at the end of the day, when Zacherl defeated former Iowa State All-American Earl Hall. Zacherl cruised past Hall in their bout, claiming a technical fall with a 10-0 score.

Zacherl won his first five matches of the day in the 65kg championship bracket, reaching the semifinals of the bracket. He did not allow a single point in his first three matches of the day, defeating Dominic Giannangeli (Penn State) 13-0 and Lewis Williams (Lock Haven) 10-0, and Collin Vargo (Central Michigan) 10-0. He advanced further with a win over Pittsburgh’s Nick Zanetta winning 5-1.

His advance to the semifinals came as a result of a win by forfeit over Rutgers’ Anthony Ashnault, before falling by a 10-4 decision to Tommy Thorn (Minnesota). Zacherl then cruised past Zanetta again by a score of 8-0 before closing out the day with an impressive 10-0 defeat of Hall.
